Coming out of a clear blue sky, so to speak, the stunning announcement has left both sides all atwitter with neither side laying any claim to understanding her motivation. Quite frankly, it’s amazing that so few people can see the truth here, much less come right out and say it. Thus, my take on this whole affair.

Understand that the mass media has not shown such a visceral reaction to a single person since, well, Barack Obama. It wasn’t the announcement of his campaign that sent the old media into such a lip-smacking jockfest; it was his first victory over Hillary Clinton that got them salivating. Since then, it has been one unending love-in. Barry can do no wrong, at least that the press will report, anyway.

Their reaction to Sarah Palin was every ounce as energetic as it was for Barry, just in an equal and opposite manner. Obama was a strong, beautiful black man; Palin was a weak artificial white chick. Obama had the courage of his convictions; Palin was marking time until her running mate John McCain could drop dead. Obama was sincere and outright; Palin was a fake cold fish. Obama could do no wrong; Palin could do no right.

All this is telling, as it gets observant wolves and shepherds closer to the truth: Palin is the flip side of Obama’s coin. Both are cults of personality, able to make people jump at will. I would even call her uberwolf as I have Barry, as both have fiercely loyal herds of sheep who will never question them. Both aspire to make indelible marks on American culture. Most importantly, both of them are experts at manipulating the media, have no doubt about that. Palin knows full well what will happen when she comes to the media’s attention: a renewed round of trash-talking and dismissal. She also knows that this stirs up her supporters as much as a rock tossed at a hornet’s nest. Indeed, the only difference twixt them is very simple: She is right, as he is left.

Why would Palin abandon her post with a year and a half left in her term? This is the part everyone claims to know: Palin will run for President in 2012. Yet, her term would have expired in time to make the primary elections that year. Why not stick around? Three reasons: Alaska is not a high-profile state. The press has largely ignored her since the election, and that doesn’t help much with name recognition. Alaskan politicians are among the most corrupt in America. Palin made her name by bouncing corrupt politicos, both Democrat and Establishment Republicans, from office. As a result, her refusal to play ball has caused her to become the politician most hated by other politicians, even those beyond Alaska’s borders. With her out of the way, the wolves of Alaska can get back to feasting on the public carcass, when they’re not busy tearing each other apart. Get it over with. And this is the main reason Palin has left office. She knows that by serving as Governor until January 2011, she would make more enemies in Alaska who would be all too happy to run to the national media at every opportunity. By not interfering with them, she gives them less motivation to do so. Further, by leaving now, the media has its knee-jerk “playa-hata” reaction now, instead of during the leadup to the 2012 Primaries. This robs the media of ammo, giving Palin’s supporters a legitimate “so-what-we-already-covered-that” reaction.

Palin’s supporters, however, should think long and hard about their newfound heroine. She is proving that she is every bit as manipulative as their most hated opponent, President Obama. Grand generalities about non-specific topics? Check. A feeling that America is desperate for “change” from politics-as-usual? Check. A herd of rabid sheep willing to overlook flaws in support of their hero’s grand mission? Big ol’ check.

What’s next, then? Palin will likely lay low until the dust settles, then she will start working her way back onto the national stage. She’ll be on Fox News once in a while so you won’t forget about her, probably doing “exclusive” interviews with O’Reilly and Hannity about how much Obama is screwing things up. And she’ll definitely be ginning up support for her vision of America with what will become the catchphrase of her campaign: “True Change.”

But never forget: when alpha wolves are on the prowl, no sheep is safe.

Despite the fact that your comedy is as limp as Arnold Schwarzenegger at a pharmaceutical convention (think about it) and that your face scares children, dogs and houseplants, as a wolf, I admire your campaign’s creative voter recruitment efforts. 1. There aren’t enough fictional voters in the Midwest to help you pull that stunt again, and
2. The Democratic Party is going to lose in 2010. Hard. As in Cartman’s Mom wide margin of loss.

Take it from a con man. You can only rook most rubes once. The Dems have traded their long-term viability for a short-term two-year kegger. Take this election result along with the rising number of oversized horse pills the Democratic Party has been forcing on the American people since January, and tell me you can’t smell that slow burn building over the voting populace.
